AlunaGeorge
‘You Know You Like It’ EP

Tri Angle Records

“The UK duo of Aluna Francis and George Reid corral elements that have lately become default signifiers of cool into a tune that’s both catchy enough for a club and sexy enough for a lingerie commercial, incorporating confectionary electro-pop and exaggerated 1990s R&B slink with wonky, bassy production and charmingly British vocals.”

 - Pitchfork

AlunaGeorge are everything that’s great about British music right now. Taking the boom and glitch of British bass culture and allying it to the slick sweetness of classic American SWV or Destinys Child-style R&B, singer Aluna Francis and producer George Reid have captured the attention of futuristic pop heads across the blogosphere with the most immediately arresting combination of a singer and producer since Timbaland first pulled up a studio chair for Missy Elliot.

Next up is the is the release of their new EP on Tri Angle records – the ever musically fast-forward home of artists like oOoOO, Holy Other and Evian Christ. Featuring the Pitchfork championed ‘You Know You Like It’ along with two other instant earworms – the summery electronic soul of ‘Just A Touch and ‘Put Up Your Hands’.

Having had their sound described by one fan as “advanced minimalistic polyrhythmic beats”, the only thing that is already clear about AlunaGeorge is that they can’t be neatly tucked away into any one box, what with experimental hip-hop, ’90’s R&B and house all dripping into their influence pot. Drawing on everything from Flying Lotus, Chris Clark and Hudson Mowhawke to Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child and Mariah Carey, AlunaGeorge manage to take the soulfulness of American R&B while remaining utterly quirky, futuristic, fun, left field and still totally, instantly classic British pop.
